The video we are going to watch today will help you to understand a little more about an amazing piece of software called Photoshop.  This is used in many different graphic design careers, and it is easily the most dynamic image editing software on the market.

After watching the video you will be working on completing the Funspots formatting activity in Excel.  You will have the entire hour to work - this will be due tomorrow.

Vocab video complete FA6 missing work Alice

Here is another video for this weeks vocabulary:

STARTING TODAY: ANYONE CAUGHT WITH THEIR SPEED SKIN OFF OF THEIR KEYBOARD WILL LOSE 10% ON THE NEXT ASSIGNMENT.  YOU WILL LOSE 10% EVERY TIME I SEE YOU WITH YOUR SPEED SKIN OFF THE KEYBOARD, SO IT IS POSSIBLE TO LOSE MORE THAN 10% IN ONE ASSIGNMENT.


If you have not yet finished FA6 you will have class time to get that done.  If you are done then you need to finish any missing work that you dont have turned in.  I have not yet graded FA5 so if you did not complete it you need to get it turned in ASAP.  If you dont have any missing work then you need to complete the Alice tutorial from Monday - here is the website again:

Spam video new symbol keys new seating chart

Reminder:  vocab definitions for vocab list #6 are due tonight!  Here is how many definitions still need to be completed:  1st hour - 4; 2nd hour - 6; 3rd hour - 6; 5th hour - 10; 6th hour - 8. After watching todays video we will again be learning more symbols on the keyboard.  Normally what we learned yesterday would take 2 days to go through, but since weve fallen behind a little I wanted to try and catch up a little by doubling up on the symbols.  So, well review what we learned yesterday and then continue with the new keys today.

The new keys we will be learning will be the # (right shift + L2), & (left shift + R1), + (left shift + R4), @ (right shift + L3), (  (right shift + R3), and )   (left shift + R4).

GPS and router video blind assignment Learn M and X

We are going to start with watching two videos - one explains the GPS and the other explains what a router is (you should remember me talking a little bit about a router from last week).

We will take a few minutes to warm up for the blind assignment.  Todays process will be slightly different than what we did in class on Tuesday, and the difference is just that we are printing out today (which we didnt do on Tuesday).  Therefore, when we get done I will explain what I want you to do. 

The rules for this assignment are as follows:  if you pull your document back on your screen you will lose .5 pts; any misspelled word loses you .5 pts; every time you forget to hit return between words will  reduce your score by .5 pts; and if you take your speed skin off while we are working on this you will lose .5 pts every time you are caught.

After completing all of this we will also learn two new keys - the M (R1) and the X (L3).

Modem video review learn left shift and period

We have a couple of housekeeping items to begin with today:

1. Make up times for classwork include: before school (except Wednesdays when I have morning duty), lunch recess, Study Hall (for those not in Band or Choir), or after school (until 3:30).  Plan accordingly if you need to use one of these times.
2. Assessments - if you tell me when you come in the room it makes leaving for the assessment much less a distraction.  Then, when it is time for you to leave you can just quietly get up and go, and Ill know why you are leaving (you wont have to raise your hand and interrupt whatever were doing - you can just go).

The below video will help to explain what a modem is (a modem is one of the vocab words for this week...if its your vocab word and you think you need to change the definition after watching the video then you can change it when you get home tonight).

We will start with a review of all the keys weve learned, but todays review will be a little different from what weve done in the past.  Youll need to think of a word that has at least 4 letters in it that we can type from all the letters we know on the keyboard - Ill explain the rest in class.

When we get done with this we will learn the left shift key (L4) and the period (R3).

Flash video pizza menu

Today we will watch the last video related to our vocab lists.  This, in my opinion, is the coolest of all of the videos we have watched!  It is amazing to see what you can do with this software!

In addition to watching the video I will be showing you how to add the text box borders that are talked about in step 10 on page 2.  The text box/borders are only needed for the inside of the menu - they should surround the 8 different categories on the menu (it acts as a good way to visually separate the 8 different categories).

Since we dont use Photoshop it is a little more difficult to understand just exactly how its used, but again, for what you need to know, just understand that its purpose is to manipulate images in a wide variety of ways.  The video will talk about Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw as these are additional parts of Photoshop - you will not need to know about these things.  

After watching the video youll have time to work on your pizza menu.  I told you yesterday that I would cover some additional information today...Ill save that for tomorrow and explain it then (you wouldnt have gotten to that part today anyway).  When you are entering your information your speed skin should be on your keyboard.

Learn symbols RSS video

The symbols, many of which are located on the numbers and are used by holding down a shift key and then pressing a number, are more difficult to learn than everything else weve covered.  The biggest reason for that is simply that you dont use these keys very often, and the process of having to combine a shift key with a number increases the difficulty level.

Today we will cover the diagonal, or forward slash - / (R4), the dollar sign - $ (right shift + L1), the exclamation point - ! (right shift + L4), the percent sign - % (right shift + L1), the less than sign - < (left shift + R2), and the greater than sign - > (left shift + R3).

This is a vocab week, so if you have definitions they need to be completed by Tuesday night.  Please make sure to get those done as soon as you can.

In CS Principles we have moved on from Data and are now covering Questions. In this unit we cover logic gates and if-thens. I want the students to make a connection between the hardware, all the binary we did earlier in the year, and how conditionals work in programming,

This explanation starts with a scenario - What if you need to trigger an alarm in a room with two sensors?

I love this approach. So often we start with the truth table, then go to a scenario, and by that point you have lost them.

After this we used the Logic.ly website to let them try making their own logic gates.

Next class well be watching this video explaining how the OR and AND gates are made. The students had a lot of questions about this today and this makes it pretty clear.

After the video and our short discussion on the other vocab words youll have the rest of the hour to complete FA6.  Make sure to follow all of the instructions.

Cache video complete FA10 vocab definitions

The below video will explain what your computers cache is.

As another reminder, remember that if you have definitions for week 8 those need to be completed by tonight.  If you are not done with yours you may want to come in during lunch recess or 7th hour.

Youll have time to complete FA10 today in class.  Once you get done with FA10, if you have any missing assignments you should work on those.  If you do not have any missing assignments then you can go to the practice websites if you are not going to do the bracket competition today (the sheets will be handed to you if you are going to be doing the competition today).

As a note regarding FA9...I started grading those yesterday, and each one takes several minutes to grade, so it is completely likely that it may take me the rest of the week to get all 5 class periods graded.  Those take a long time to grade, so if you havent submitted your FA9 yet you should do that ASAP to avoid losing points for turning it in late.
